Each of us has regrets, losses, or times in our past that we would rather forget. But we can’t let our past define who we are or who we will become. One of my favorite sayings is; No one can rob you of your joy unless you allow it. Sometimes, those in our life will constantly bring up our past or what we have done in the past. Don’t be angry with them. Typically, they are just worried that your old patterns will resurface. If this happens to you, assure those in your life that only you can change your future and that you are committed to doing just that, but with their support, it will be easier. Ask them to erase the past for a short period of time and allow you to earn back their trust. Or maybe you have someone in your life who needs your support. Maybe they truly want their future to be different than their past. Give them a chance, and try not to worry about what happened in the past. Each of us has the power to overcome obstacles and patterns in our past, which threaten to define who we are or who we could become. The secret is that you must believe that your past is not your future. Once you embrace that belief, anything is possible.
Something to Think About
Peter Drucker said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” I love that saying. It reinforces the belief that where we have been doing does not dictate where we are going. With determination and positivity, we can chart a new course for ourselves at any time in our lives. Only you can choose your path and create your future.
Stop being so hard on yourself or others. Sometimes it’s just a series of baby steps, one step at a time. Practice tolerance their week.
