As we approach the end of the year, if you are like most people, you are already starting to think about what you would like to change in 2024. Whether you want to lose weight, get healthier, quit smoking, or start a new hobby, a new year is a chance for new beginnings. So, what’s next for you?  You have the power to do anything, but changing habits or starting new projects requires a lot of perseverance. Research shows that it typically takes several attempts for a person to quit smoking, lose weight, develop a healthy lifestyle, or change an existing habit. Recognize that changing existing behavior is a process, so please don’t get discouraged by minor setbacks. Use them as opportunities to reflect and recommit to your goal, and then try again. Persistence is essential for permanent change.

Statistics show that up to 90% of people who make a commitment to change in the new year will give up and revert to their old behavior within 30 days. Maybe it’s because they have unrealistic expectations, or they failed to have a plan. Change is sometimes slow, but it can be permanent when you persist and stay focused on the goal.
